Columbus Day happy hour conundrum- solved. these go all night, so whenever you can escape from work, make this your Mecca. post up at the bar or in their charming backyard. options include, among others, a refreshing cucumber and pink peppercorn variety, and a cinnamon and fresh orange surprise. choose two. or four. or six. and of course- flirt with David, the bartender. hungry? I recommend anything on the menu, in addition to the croquettes.

ok so they didn’t make their projected spring opening, or even in time for summer. but the greenpoint barge bar is finally open for business, just in time for fall. check it out before it gets too cold.

that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a cold brew outside. wearing lederhosen. check out craftober fest at brooklyn bridge park, showcasing some of the best local microbrews. then wander through the park to check out Jeppe Hein’s year-long installation of interactive sculptures and please touch the art. and of course, the view isn’t bad either.

have you been to this place yet?? it’s awesome. ok, so maybe an outdoor space with corn hole, ping pong, evergreen grassy areas, and ample picnic tables isn’t your scene. then don’t go. you suck.

so. fortunately this blog is not famous yet, because if it were, i’d likely be beheaded for announcing this. if you’re here reading, you are lucky. come closer to the screen. closer. (closer!) go to river styx restaurant sunday night. any sunday night. get a table, and when the waiter comes over, whisper “meatballs” to him. or her. it doesn’t matter, just say “meatballs”- and BOOM. free dinner- spaghetti and homemade meatballs. plus with their inventive seasonal cocktails and well-procured wine selections, you have a perfect way to end the weekend. take a little walk through transmitter park after. fall in love with brooklyn, again.

you didn’t know it was a holiday? because here in new york we all had to work anyway?
after suffering through monday celebrate our nation’s discovery by crossing the river into manhattan and see walking shapes play at Le Poisson Rouge. this high-energy rock quintet hails from our fine city, and they happened to be the last band i saw play at the venue formerly known as spike hill- RIP. see them shut down LPR at 10pm. tickets here.
