things i’m doing this weekend (…that do not involve any pumpkin spice.)
drop everything and go see the joy formidable at brooklyn bowl tonight. this band is absolutely insane live and the sound the energetic hard rock creates an enigmatic juxtaposition against ritzy bryan’s stunning, fluid voice. absolutely do not miss this. tickets here.
but if you HAVE to- walking shapes is playing at grand victory, along with…. tickets are half the price, and the show will be outside in their amazing backyward space. this is definitely one of the best up-and-coming bands performing at CMJ, and they’re from brooklyn. GO.
or do that fred-flintstone move where you go to both.
Elements Circus Cabaret at Big Sky Woods
I love events that seem so weird that they can only actually occur in brooklyn. check out this quirky cabaret of circus performers along with late-night performances by hungry march band and environmental encroachment, so you don’t miss any CMJ. starts at 8.30, rsvp here.
or, get your CMJ fix at baby’s all right.
car seat headrest brings all his teen angsty lyricism and over-synthed tunes take to the stage along with friends porches, superheaven, the almbum leaf, ezra furman… etc etc etc (i guess he’s really popular) just check it out man. here. oh and have a first listen.
Party Line at secret location (it’s actually a secret, this isn’t a new hip spot.)
these guys have a tried-and-true reputation for throwing some of the best brooklyn warehouse parties, and adding a shroud of mystery always increases the level of mischief to be had. buy tickets here and go there and of course, don’t tell a soul.
Fall Oyster Roast and Boatyard Party at the North Brooklyn Boat Club
i can’t say enough about these guys and the amount of incredibly affordable and unique events they throw at their little alcove in the northernmost part of greenpoint. $15 gets you a dozen oysters, potatoes, and bread, and the best part- it’s BYOB.
cash and venmo only- more info here.
let’s just hope the oysters aren’t from the newtown creek…
Brooklyn Vegan party at baby’s
brooklyn vegan always curates an exemplary lineup, especially during all the noise of the CMJ fest. rely on their party saturday at baby’s all right for a lineup that guarantees to shwocase the breadth and talent that makes up this citywide music fest. tickets here.
i hate to say it, but it’s going to be damn cold. heat up at the Chile Fest at Heatonist in williamsburg. sample hatch chiles from new mexico, latch remixes from disclosure, and hot matches from all your favorite social dating apps! (only one of those things is true.) take a chance, buy tickets here.
