Wondershow at House of Yes in Bushwick
Believe in magic and nightlife again this Thursday at House of Yes with this month’s Wondershow, featuring Eric Walton, who is easily the best magician in the world right now. According to whom? According to fucking David Blaine. That’s whom. Come tonight to for magic, jugglers, painted women, you, me, and all of our friends and future lovers. Plus, tequila! I mean, if you want it of course… it’s always there for you. Get tickets here NOW (they’re going fast man. real fast.) Booklyn Moving Sale in Greenpoint
Beloved Booklyn is closing the doors of there 20-year residence on Greenpoint Ave to move to a larger space in Sunset Park. Which is awful because that space might become something sad. Like a Baby Gap. It’s a 3-day event featuring readings and one-of-a-kind books and prints and a couple of tears and tears. All info here.
National Margarita Day, everywhere apparently.
Don’t you hate it when social media decides it must designate a day for every fucking thing and then push it off into the trend surf and watch everyone lose their minds while their Instagram feeds all become some cohesive slop of feigned artistry while their lives are completely and utterly unchanged?
Yeah. Me fucking too. In other news, it’s National Margarita Day. Here’s a link to where you can mindlessly pretend that’s a thing while you get drunk.
FRIDAY
The Answer at Tørst in Greenpoint
Say WHATTTT! There are a million things I miss about Richmond. My sister, the chicken biscuits at Saison, that not-so-secret and sometimes-nude spot under the pipeline on the James River, and all of the amazing beer. Like, all of it. Somehow I still can’t get it up here and I always leave with a few gingerly packed in my bag to occupy me on the train ride back up while I fight back my tears, searching for an answer as to why I still get so homesick. One answer is that the allure of the city is strong enough to keep me here, and to somehow lure some of that hometown charm up here to me sometimes. In the form of The Answer brews at Tørst this Friday.
THAT was a long explanation for what you need to know: One of Richmond (and the world’s) best brewmasters will be at Tørst Friday to kick off NYC Beer Week, with a few coveted kegs of that magic Richmond Beer you can’t get anywhere else. Let him provide you with an answer to your Friday night plans with 7 different beers from The Answer Brewpub. Go. Drink. Sing this song while you do it. Talk to me about how great Richmond is. Beers flowing from noon-2am, drink and chat with Brandon at 7pm. Info here. 615 Manhattan Ave.
National Stardust, a David Bowie Performance at National Sawdust in Williamsburg
DJ/VJ duo The Hogstad Brothers take over the cosmically transportive and audibly constructed space at National Sawdust to spin a web of David Bowie music and the artists he influenced while projecting live-mixed, psychedelic, Bowie-themed, fashion-infused, dance-floor-interactive visuals onto National Sawdust’s architecture. Dancers from MinuteZero make the whole event come to life around you. Go. Go to this. Tickets, $23 available here. 10pm-midnight. 80 N 6th St.
SATURDAY
Walk the West Vintage Anniversary Party in Greenpoint
Sometimes good things do last. My favorite little vintage shop in Brooklyn is turning ONE on Saturday and they want you to celebrate with them. Come for a glass of prosecco and feel alive among all of the old duds that they have breathed new life back into and the sustainable community they are constantly reinvigorating. The party starts at 6pm, so you can go and pick out something hip to wear to all of the other things I’ve planned for you tonight. Info here.
Studio54 Dance Party at Our Wicked Lady in Bushwick
Come wear all the glitter and disco your way back to the 70s in Bushwick Saturday night at Our Wicked Lady. GO BANG selectors Jordan Jenner and Max Dowd will be spinnin’ all the funky freshest grooves to keep your hips shakin’ and your hearts breakin’ all night. There is NO COVER to enter, which means the only lines you’ll need to be worried about are the ones inside the bathroom stall. Info here, the party starts at 9pm and also whenever you arrive. So arrive at 9pm. 153 Morgan Ave.
Curling Gold Medal Watch Party with the Brooklyn Lakeside Curling Club at McMahon’s Public House in Park Slope
The Winter Olympics are happening and that marks the anniversary of everyone asking questions about curling. Curl up and watch the finals with a few people who have all the answers. The Brooklyn Lakeside Curling Club invites you to come watch and brush up on your winter sport knowledge and have a few beers while you do it. Just slide on into McMahon’s at 7pm this Saturday. Info here. 39 5th Ave.
SUNDAY
The Mac and Cheese Takedown at the Brooklyn Bazaar in Greenpoint
Here is your ticket to get really fucking rowdy Saturday night. Why? Because there’s a Mac and Cheese bonanza happening at the Brooklyn Bazaar that will melt all of your hangover woes away. The Mac and Cheese Takedown is bringing us all the best macs from around town and they’ll fight it out to see who wins best. How will they be fighting, you ask? By throwing lots of elbows. (HAHAHAHA.) Tickets, $25 available here. It starts at 2pm, so basically right when you wake up and want to die. 150 Greenpoint Ave.
This event is highly recommended for your post-mac work-it-out and if you skip the mac all together. Or if you mac and then do this and then return to the mac. It’s the Spring Wring workshop, a session of digestion-focused yoga to increase your flow. Afterwards, stick around for a Q&A and food demo by nutritionist and dietician Jo Ledda. Trust me, you gotta go. Reserve your spot here for $30 ($25 for members!). 3-5pm, 657 Meeker Ave
See you out there, Brooklyn.
