it’s the last weekend of cold weather guys. forever. so let’s celebrate by dismissing it all together and getting out.

THURSDAY

The Wild Honey Pie Presents Step Rockets EP Release, Baby’s All Right, Williamsburg.

mmm wild honey pie- so sweet and edgy. i don’t need to say too much more than these guys are on the pulse of all of the amazing new music in the city, and bring it to you cheap and usually at baby’s all right and just take my advice and go. tonight, the EP release from step rockets and joined by friends george clanton and glassio. tickets are just a click away! $10. 148 broadway, or just listen for the sounds of baby’s feeling all right.

living in new york, your sense of comfort is skewed to say the least. the exceptions we make for personal space, home amenities, regular laundering of our clothing and necessity to seek therapy through hard liquor make our lives distinctly less-comfortable than the majority of america. however, these shifts and changes inevitably strengthen and weaken our views of home, of love, of connection, of comfort. this event brings a group of artists interpreting their ever-changing sense of comfort through the elements- land, air, sea. and how these changes must occur in order to truly breathe. opening reception is tonight, 6-9pm at 30 john st. and also enveloping archway under the manhattan bridge, with a DJ. let’s get cozy and shifty. together.

you know what i love about fridays? trying to pretend to be a civilized adult in the workplace after going to an event like this. it’s actually been proven that the older you get, your midweek bad decisions get a little bit riskier, your reasons not to make them get arguably more valid, your capacity to hide it all at the workplace the next day requires much more creativity. (“no i just went to the eye doctor, i have to wear these all day.” “no, i rubbed isopropyl alcohol all over my body to try to combat the bed bugs that are surely infesting our entire borough as we speak.” “no, this isn’t a flask. turn your swivel chair around, bob. just turn it around and do that little typing thing you like to do.”) do not succumb to the idea of adulthood that society has created for you! go see paul raffaele instead at good room- my favorite place to do bad things, as an adult. everything you need to know, right here.

AH, ben harper! ben burnin’ one down and stealing kisses since the 90s. and murdering that goddamn slide guitar. what a badass. he and the (not-so-)innocent criminals are back with a new EP and to promote it, they’re giving a free show at rough trade’s back little cave bandstand- all it will cost you is to purchase their piece. dope, right? get into it. 64 N 9th st, doors 630, show 7. meet me in the cave.

Ah, sunday- your last chance to do something so you don’t feel so bad about yourself come monday morning. partake in this cultural bi-level exhibition of devised theater by american authors. 85 North 1st St, 7pm, $20, tickets and potential, here.

UNFINISHED exhibit at the old Whitney/the new Met Breuer, UES.

ah, the new whitney! but what happened to the old one? that brutalist building hidden in the UES? WELL. the met scooped it up and its first installation is unfinished, quite literally. featuring artists from all different eras, genres, and exploring all mediums of art work. they are designated “unfinished” as defined by the artist so it’s a unique peek into the creative process and a chance to see art before it is made presentable. this show runs through sept 4th but catch it early, this weekend. while all your friends are talking about the new whitney. 945 madison ave.

where to eat this weekend

Cafe Mogador, 133 Wythe Ave, Williamsburg.

this progressive little moroccan mainstay on wythe ave in williamsburg feels like it should have been the trend of the month, but it’s become an institution in the neighborhood, and for good reason. the ambience in the backyard is just exotic enough, and the food and service are impeccable. so much flavor in every single dish, it makes me want to move into a tagine and just stew for a bit.. it’s always packed, so be prepared to wait or go during off hours- the kitchen stays open late. there’s more than one reason to say,”give me some mo'(gador)!” actually yeah there’s just about one reason. but it’s a good one!
