a chance to celebrate le joi de vivre, as only the french know how. each year the beaujolais nouveau, a wine that is supposed to be drunk young (and, young we are! so drink we must.) cannot legally be sold, opened, or enjoyed until the third thursday of november. the wine signifies the end of the harvest, a changing of the seasons- a moment to celebrate the bounty of the growing season and to appreciate this beautiful transitional time of year with friends, family, and an endlessly half-full glass. to be in paris for this celebration is something truly sacred. until then, let’s celebrate wherever we are and behold our dear parisian family and raise a glass to what will be this transition- one of growing stronger, one of fighting evil with good, and recognizing that nothing will destroy our joie de vivre.

Dance Party at a Chocolate Factory, fine + raw in bushwick
sounds pretty sweet to me. head to fine + raw for a night of deep house music, inventive cocktails, disorienting visual effects and chocolate giveaways- nothing could go wrong with this combination. 8pm-midight, 288 Seigel St. ca-CAO.

FRIDAY
Free Friday at the Brooklyn Historical Society, brooklyn heights
time seems to be relative here in brooklyn- we don civil war beards all year, summon our ancestors at 1620s pop up dinners and purchase overpriced chocolate bars made from foraged cacao beans that were brought back on a handmade wooden sailboat… yet always burn the midnight oil lamp at clandestine deep house warehouse parties and wait in line for 6 hours for a fancy donut or an inventive art exhibit.
get a handle on some time that isn’t bending at the brooklyn historical society with their last free autumn friday- live music, brooklyn beers, and history– and not in an ironic way. 5-9pm, 128 Pierrepont St

Bobble Ball Soccer, prospect park.
immerse yourself into a rubberbubble for a pickup game of soccer in prospect park friday evening. i don’t know if the rules are the same, i’m not sure if there’s oxygen, and literally good luck if you expel any gas inside this thing. just bounce into people until you’re satisfied and ready to attack your weekend without protection. the parade ground in prospect park, 50 parkside avenue, 4pm. let’s bounce.

Immersive Art Party, Le Salon, LES
po-up, curated, immersive art and music experience at le salon on ludlow- i have no idea what to make of this but i know that i will pay my $25 and fully immerse myself and see you on the other side. or, not. whatever. more info, here– or just take my word for it. 8pm-3am, 40 ludlow st.
ZODIACK PT VII: SCORPIO BOXXX, IDIO Gallery, williamsburg
scorpios- lets unite in all of our dark, conniving, and sensual glory before the moon hides our month of danger away for another year.  come to IDIO gallery in williamsburg for a night of carnal performances, gritty music, and sensual visuals, 8pm-2am; scorpios free- all inferior signs of the zodiac- $5 with rsvp, 8 at door. the sting of a scorpio only hurts for a minute but the pain lasts a lifetime.

SATURDAY
Holographic Chameleon, Immersive Gallery, Williamsburg
this is one of those this-shit-would-only-happen-in-brooklyn events that i absolutely love. even reading the description transports me down a rabbit hole into an imaginative visual of every psychedelic dream i’ve had, what i’ve seen lithely slide across the lens of a microscope in science class, and intricate fuzzy posters i completed as a child. so i can only imagine what it’s actually like. a 600-sq foot warehouse in williamsburg will be transformed into a multi-sensory experience of light, video, sound, art, and god knows what else as the artists have attempted to represent the transformation of light into antimatter as it enters a blackhole. NOTICE: you will probably disappear. or become antimatter. i have no idea, but i know i’m in. and out. all at the same time. Immersive Gallery, 132 bedford ave, free. opening friday 11/13 (but it seems you’re quite busy on friday), and open to the public saturday 2-6pm. immerse yourself.

Caveman, Dave Harrington Group at Cameo Gallery, Williamsburg
there is nothing worse than seeing another great brooklyn music venue go- except maybe not going to see shows there as much as possible until then end. head to Cameo to see Caveman and Dave Harrington Group all but shut this place down in all of its unbelievable-acoustics-and-contemporary-squirmy-hanging-sculpture glory. GO. 93 N 6th st. 7pm, $15

Live Jazz and Gypsy Dinner, Le Fanfare, Greenpoint
i can’t say enough about this place. amazing food, live jazz every friday, saturday, and sunday night. the menu boasts a burrata that will make you want to trade in all of your gold and become a traveling gypsy, and a seared octopus that feels like you’re being hugged by 4 warm people at the same. with little tiny non-threatening suctions on their arms. go, saturday night, and be charmed. 8.30-11pm, 1103 manhattan ave.

SUNDAY
Stephane Wrembel, Barbes, Park Slope
if you haven’t yet listened to all songs considered this week, give it a listen. it’s focusing on how music heals us in times of grief, often when nothing else gives us solace. with the epicenter of last friday’s attacks at a live rock show in paris, this especially feels prevalent- that our reaction be one of coming back to music to show our support and to help us heal. head this sunday to barbes in park slope to see Stephane Wrembel and his amazing accompanying band. given wrembel’s french roots and affinitiy for storytelling, plus the intimate atmosphere in barbes and soul-shattering nature of his sound, this will surely help to give you answers where there are none, give you feeling where you’re feeling numb, and be in a room together with people silently hurting and healing, together. 9pm-midnight, Barbes, 376 9th st.

The Moth- Story Slam, Music Hall of Williamsburg
i know a good raconteur when i hear one. hear them all trying in a magnificent presentation of nerve, improvisation, and the art of storytelling at the music hall of williamsburg sunday night. tickets, info words- here.

Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival
wth so much bass-bumping noise in the music right now, the only place hanging on to the integrity of electronic music is… berlin. BUT, the only place who’s trying (hey!) is brooklyn. especially this weekend with the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival, bringing you the best up-and-coming electronic/dubstep/house/trans djs worldwide to your favorite venues. i’ve picked a few of my favorites, below. go. dance. repeat.

say what?! you already know that the diamond has the most diverse beer offerings in brooklyn- let’s add to it this pop-up from el jefe’s nachoria in honor of national nacho day and you pretty much have friday plans taken care of. the only issue? there will 4 uniquely-curated nacho creations. and you have two hands. figure.it.out… or have a friend lend you a hand. 7-10pm, 43 franklin st.

Lyle Divinsky Album Release Party at The Knitting Factory
if you’re anything like me you’ve been digging the soul revival happening in music right now, and maybe have been craving being in the middle of that addictive doo-wop scene ever since you saw leon bridges live in madrid, head to the knitting factory for some very necessary audio refuge from all the electro beats and check out local busker-turned-hustler lyle divinsky. doo-wop on over, 7-11pm, $10, 361 metropolitan ave.

or you believe in lcd soundsystem and anyone they were inspired by and have inspired entering your ears and consequently moving your feet, go to this indie dance party at grand victory to hear dj’s sponsored by You Don’t Have To Settle spinning tunes by bands like future islands, tame impala, hot chip, RAC, phoenix, tanlines, LCD, and basically anything else in your coolest friend’s vinyl collection. let’s boogie.

i find it rather shellfish that all the new england expats residing in our lovely town think lobster is the only crustacean that’s cracking. it’s about time the crab gets some love, for all of us originally from points south of the mason dixon line or that simply have an elevated sense of taste. check out the bk crab fest at 40 knots bar, 200 columbia st.

Hot Glass, Cold Beer Fundraiser at Brooklyn Glass
for an event that doesn’t blow this weekend… head to brooklyn glass’s fall fundraiser- a hot $20 gets you bottomless beverages and a glass-blowing demonstration and a hand-blown glass to drink out of. don’t blow it (ay.), check it out. saturday 7-11pm. 142 13th st.

The Sunset. transmitter park, pulse bridge, long island city.
no, this isn’t an event- it’s just the sunset. there’s just something about the way the autumn sun bends through the thinning air and sets so delicately over the jagged-toothed skyline of our fair metropolis. check it out from the pulaski bridge saturday evening when this cloud cover leaves us, and enjoy the gift that is this unseasonably warm weather.
